The most important factor that needs to be considered when buying a projector lamp is the resolution. For office application like the PowerPoint presentations, a XGA (1024x768) resolution in usually sufficient. For multimedia applications, the image aspect should be 16:9 specific to the movie display. In this class of projectors fit those with 854x480 (480p), 1280x720 (720p) and'20x1080 (1080i) resolutions. The price is proportional with resolution and that is why a full HD compatible projector can reach or even go above the amount of 300.

The luminous intensity (lumen) will reflect the clarity of the image projected in a well lighted room. Usually the projectors have two working modes: normal and economical. The first is recommended for the rooms with a higher luminosity and the second is perfect for darker rooms.

In the case of projectors the lamp is considered a consumable with a few thousand hours life span. Usually the device will announce by itself when the lamp needs to be replaced and that is when the intensity of luminosity reaches the half of the original capacity. When buying a projector the cost of the lamp replacing must be also considered.

The projecting distance and the projected image diagonal are also very important. One must consider the dimension of the wall or screen that will be used. It is good to know that for a more vivid projection it must be used a white wall of screen. If a higher contrast rate is what interests you it is recommended the usage of a grey screen. In this case the colors will suffer.

Depending on the video signal source, one has to be careful at the jacks and sockets that the projector has. Most of them work with D-Sub, Component, Composite and S-Video connectors. The new and high resolution models have also DVI and HDMI ports. It is good to know that a projector with original resolution of 720p can in the most of the cases offer a video signal of 1080i due to the scaling motor.
