A lot of homes sport the Xbox 360 game console and today it still remains the supreme favorite. There are, of course, many different games available for the enjoyment of any player and the Xbox 360 still offers the best in features and graphics of any game console out there available today. Here is some of the best now available.

Make a note to look into some of the titles that are available for the most and best fun on your Xbox 360.

1. Halo 3 – The last installment of the Halo series has definitely improved upon its predecessors. This game will have you playing for the entire life of the system no doubt. It starts where Halo 2 ended and packs more excitement into the online multiplayer than both of the previous games combined. The story mode is also excellent and challenges will have you playing for a long time.

2. Call of Duty 4: Modern warfare – This game moves the battle from World War II and into the modern and into the epic battle of the future. Giving the individual player new weapons and the very newest in graphics and give the player the desire to play again and again. This game is great for the single player as well as a fantastic multiplayer and will have you playing more often than not.

3. Fallout 3 – This game has been eagerly awaited by fans and has taken a long time to get into the stores. Players will find this edition of the game different from the other two editions of the game. This game will give you hours of great game play with your console (Xbox 360).

4. The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion – A role playing game, and has been long anticipated by many fans. Fans (players) of Oblivion found it has surpassed their expectations and had also gone beyond that. This games graphics are fantastic and found at top of role playing games lists and a game you will enjoy playing on your Xbox 360.

5. Gears of War 2 – A larger edition, of the first that gave fans a lot to enjoy as they waited and anticipated the next act to become available on the market. This second edition of the game will provide you with plenty of adventure and excitement.

What Gives a Violin Value?

February 25th, 2009
by Dewey Finn

The short answer and the long answer to this question is the sound of the violin. The short answer is best illustrated by a story related to me by our Luthier. He has over 50 years of experience and has attended hundreds of Luthiery conventions and has lectured at many of them. He told me that there are no liars at Luthier conventions. He went further to explain that presenters can show their nicest violins. They can lecture on techniques and show off the most beautiful of woods and engraving on a violin. Their violin can look pretty. It can have taken hours and weeks and months to prepare it. However, it all comes down to that moment when the player puts the bow to the strings and makes music. The violin can be the most beautiful violin ever made but if it sounds like shit, it is worthless. It is just that simple. You can have a violin appraisal done at your local luthiery.

The long answer to this question is that there are degrees of quality and then there is always personal preference as sound is a very subjective judgment as to what is pleasing to the ear. There seems to be a standard that has been set from the time violins were perfected. The sound of the Stradivarius is the standard for most trained ears. However, depending on the type of music to be played and how the instrument feels to the player, some prefer instruments of the designs of other masters such as the Amati or Guarnerius family designs or those of Maggini.

Degrees of quality depend on the quality of the wood and then the talent and knowledge of construction techniques of the maker of the violin. The wood used by Stradivarius in making his violins is legendary in that no one has been able to duplicate his process for finding the right wood and then treating it with the right processes to achieve the same result on a consistent basis. Of course his were all hand made. As the factory process was applied to the making of violins, more violins were made and more diverse maple and spruce forests were harvested. This is evident in the variety of grains of the maple in the masters’ copies that were produced from the middle of the 19th century up until the start of the 20th century. There are millions of examples still circulating. What sorts them out is the test of time on the wood and how well they were made. Some cottage factories and later, the mass production factories varied greatly in the thoroughness of their construction techniques. The quality ranges from some very bad cottage factory made violins to the very nice Wolff Brothers violin mass produced at the turn of the century. Violin making then moved to where the labour was cheaper so in the 20th century factories migrated from Europe to Japan to China.

I have witnessed a lot of violin playing on a wide quality range of violins. I have been blessed with watching some very talented young violinists play our instruments. When they play the best players play the best instruments, you can see them go to that special place that musicians go where all they see and feel is the music. It is joyful to watch and for the violinist it is the soul of the experience of playing. The better the sound, the more blissful the experience is for the player and the listener. And that very simply is where the value lays in violins.

Cheap Acoustic Guitars

February 24th, 2009
by Jay Tyler

The materials used to construct musical instruments are what drive the price. Wood is a big part of the cost of a guitar. Although guitars can be made from graphite or plastic, wood gives the sound your looking for even with a cheap acoustic guitar. If you purchase a guitar that isn’t constructed from wood it wont sound right to you and it may cause you to quit the guitar from sheer frustration. You are better off getting a cheap acoustic guitar crafted from wood than trying to save money with a plastic model that you will only disappoint you.

Although the Seagull S6 isnt the most cheap acoustic guitar going, it does offer fantastic value for the money that you spend on it. This guitar is a great start for any beginner. It creates a beautiful sound with its solid cedar top and mahogany sides and back. Even professionals will keep one of these in their collections among their more expensive ones. It’s a guitar that anyone who is serious about becoming a guitar player should look into investing in. It costs around $400 to $500, but you’ll understand the great value of it once you get into playing. A great place to look for special deals and compare prices for this guitar would be to do a little web browsing about it.

The Yamaha F310 is a fine lower-priced option if youre seeking a cheap acoustic guitar. Its top is manufactured from solid spruce, while its back and sides are crafted out of mahogany. At $150 to $200, it is friendly to your pocketbook and it is very popular with serious new guitar students.

The next price range for cheap acoustic guitars is from $120-$150. A great selection in this category is the Epiphone DR-100. This guitar has a high quality spruce top with mahogany back and sides. This is a student instrument and you will have to upgrade at some point. If you don’t know how serious your interest in the guitar really is, then this is a good choice if you still want to obtain a decent quality guitar at a low price.

Even if you are looking for a really cheap acoustic guitar you are better off to avoid those with a cost below $100. Practically speaking, in the $100 price range there are no bargains. Many such guitars will be very disappointing. The cheap acoustic guitars under $100 are usually of such poor quality that may lead many inexperienced players to give up on learning to play guitar. This is particularly sad for young people, which are maybe at their first encounter with music and willing to play. So, stay away from those guitars under $100, since at that price you will not find stuff of even modest quality.

You are much better off eschewing the $80 guitar from the bargain bin and purchasing a used guitar. Second-hand guitars have a wealth and beauty all their own and you may actually like it better than one that is brand new. Go to a guitar store that offers a wide range of second-hand cheap acoustic guitars and look around and play them until you find the one that is perfect for you.

Even if you can only go with a cheap acoustic guitar, look for one with a top that is solid as opposed to one with a top made of plywood. The solid wood acoustic guitar will provide a rich and full tone. If it is in your budget, stick with ones that have solid wood on the backs and sides as well.

How to Troubleshoot iPods

February 23rd, 2009
by Jennifer Kilpatrick

The Ipod generation has not only opened doors for limitless entertainment and business opportunities (and a saving grace for Apple) but has also given rise to the demand and expectation in durability of its product releases. The gadget though pretty and still the top leader among music player brands, couldnt be spared by faults from time to time (just like with everything).

But good news is that like most Apple products, the iPod is well designed both internally and externally and provided you have first-hand knowledge in technology and the likes, you can diagnose the fault and home repair will be as easy as counting 1-2-3.

You will know there is a problem with your iPod when: it doesn’t power up, not recognized by iTunes, it won’t play music, or it displays the dreaded sad face logo on its screen. Before panic strikes you and thinking maybe the screwdrivers ought to do the job, you should first try the 5 R’s which are detailed at length on Apple’s support site and briefly they are:

First and always Reset the IPod when symptoms starts showing off. Flick hold on and off then hold down the menu and select buttons (centre button and top of wheel). Next is Retry by plugging your IPod into a different USB or fire wire socket on your computer or laptop. When everything is settled on it is now time to Restart your computer. After that Reinstall by getting the latest version of iTunes and reinstall your iPod from this new version then Restore your iPod from iTunes.

If the above Diagnostics still proves your IPod has serious problems, there is another method you can use and that is by using the reset method and then straight away pressing the play/pause button. Doing this will force the ipod to act like a standard external hard drive and it will become visible in Windows. Next select the ipod in the Windows view, right click and select format (before doing this remember that this will erase everything on your iPod; music, audiobooks, videos, pictures, etc). Open iTunes. If it was just a problem of corrupted software on the iPod, iTunes will go about reinstalling and then you can catch your breath now.

2008 Box Office Hits By Derain: Free New Movies

February 22nd, 2009
by Perry White

This is a small selection of movie hits for 2008. This list consists of the films I enjoyed watching this year. I hope you find a couple of movies that are good viewing.

ROLE MODELS: Danny (Paul Rudd) and Wheeler (William Scott), who promote an energy drink, are going to see some hard jail time because they binged, and trashed the company truck. The only way to avoid serving jail time is to perform 150 hours of community service. Their task will be to become mentors in a big brother type situation. The stage is set for some good comedy.

PINEAPPLE EXPRESS: Heavy pot smoker Dale Denton has just witnessed a bad police officer, and a big time dealer, commit a murder. They see him witness the crime. Understanding that he has been seen, he unwittingly throws down his joint, a unique version called pineapple express, and gets away fast. The pot is so unique, that it is possible to find out who has it. The game is on, as Dale and his dealer Saul are deparately hidding from the bad guys.

FORGETTING SAHRAH MARSHALL: Overwhelmed with grief after a devastating break up with his girlfriend Sarah, an actress in a chessy sitcom, Peter eventually decides to take a vacation to Oahu to recover from his depression. As one might expect, upon checking into the resort, he looks up and sees his ex girlfriend and her new lover, who is a mega rock star. The stage is set for a classic romantic comedy.

JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH: On a quest to find his brother, science professor Trevor Anderson sets out on a journey that puts him on a journey to the center of earth. This is another version of the original 1959 movie, which was about the science fiction book by highly acclaimed author Jules Verne. Cast includes Brendan Fraser, Josh Hutchinson, Anita Briem, and Seth Myers.

TROPIC THUNDER: Overloded with good actors the genre of the film is a parody of recent war movies. To get a realistic performance from his spoiled actors to make a true epic masterpiece, the seemingly bold director into the wild jungle, and leaves them there by themselves. He hopes to frightnen them into the realism needed for a graet war film, which hidden cameras will capture. Unbelievabley, as the director blows up on an old French land mine, the crew is left on its own, and they think there acting, but the bullets flying are actually real. Stars include Ben Stiller, Robert Downey Jr., and Tom Cruise.

STEP BROTHERS: When two child like older men, who both live at home with one parent, are going to live in the same room because their mom and dad get married, big problems loom. With Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly as the key players, and the conditions are right for lots of laughs. This film is a must see for a good time this year.

Jumper: Nearing death by drowning, David Rice discovers he has an unbelievable ability. He has the ability to teleport himself to any place he wants to go, at any time. Later, he becomes aware that there are others with this skill. Unfortunately, after a few years of fun, he finds out that there are those that want him, and all the jumpers wiped out. He must fight for his life, as these paladins believe he should die.

THE INCREDIBLE HULK: This film tells us the tale of Dr. Bruce Banner (Edward Norton), who, because of a gamma ray experiment gone bad, has been changed into the Incredible Hulk. The film is about the marvel comic hero, the Incredible Hulk. Key cast members are Edward Norton, Tim Roth and Liv Tyler. Louis Leterrier directed this movie. The film style is sci-fi/action-thriller.

INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL: The Indiana Jones movies are back, after a few years off. This is the latest film about the adventures of Indiana Jones. In this movie Indiana battles the Soviets. This time, it’s off top the amazone to search for the Crystal Skulls, and the secrets they carry.

Many people will buy films when the come out on DVD, so they can see them in the comfort of their living rooms. A new way people are aquiring movies is through downloads from online sources. There are websites that offer downloading of tons of different movies.

Choosing the Best Discount iPod Accessories

February 21st, 2009
by Jennifer Kilpatrick

IPod was named Invention of the year by Time Magazine and the reason was pretty obvious; its pretty. IPod has achieved the balance of ease, portability, and style and I think these are the primary reason why the little gadget has the seventy percent share in digital music player sales in the United States alone. And what better way to express ourselves than just pouring our list of favorite music in our IPod? That would be the accessories that come with the package.

Headphones and Headsets

Though the white ear bud headphones that come with your IPod looks slick and cool, they are just the beginning. There are dozens of headphones oozing with style and technology that will speak to the individual preference. Why not try noise-canceling or sound-isolating headphones for distraction-free listening. Or waterproof headphones whenever there’s a pool party or a day at the beach.

Cables and Docks

Who says the IPod only speaks to you? With the right cables, you can connect your iPod to your home stereo so you can impress friends with that crisp-sounding music on your playlist or to your home theater so you can watch videos on the big screen with the family. When the IPods gets an all day duty, the docks will provide you a convenient home base for charging and syncing.

Armbands

For the gym buffs who dislike the Top 40 radio offerings at the gym, an armband will turn your IPod into that sweet escape whenever you workout. First, find the armband that fits your iPod and your taste then just strap it on, press Play, and hit that treadmill.

Cases

An IPOd case shouldn’t only just offer protection from dust, moisture, or fingerprints; it should go with your personality. There are countless casing colors, material, and design available in the market ready to synch with your style.

Power and Car Accessories

One of the greatest match-up in music entertainment is the car and your IPod. The feeling of having to sing along with your favorite tune in your car (without embarrassing yourself and your listener) is a freedom in self-expression. Keep your iPod juiced up with power accessories for your or auto. If your car doesnt include a built-in iPod connection, you can listen to your tunes from your cars stereo with some simple accessories.

Speakers

The one thing that set Music apart from other entertainment medium is that, you can take it almost everywhere with ease and simplicity. Wherever you like to listen to your favorite music ” living room or backyard, office or beach party, anywhere ” theres an iPod speaker for the job and most of them include docks that charge your iPod as they play, and many come with remote controls.

Install Satellite TV On Computer

February 20th, 2009
by Jed Elaine

Ever since it first appeared, the TV industry has seen continuous growth. Not only one of the main recreational pastimes worldwide, it is also a key communication medium for our modern society. Conventional broadcast still forms the majority of TV transmission, but alternatives such as cable and satellite are now available. Although viable, these alternatives are limited in their wider appeal. Watch TV On Computer however is fast catching up as a viable alternative and its appeal grows stronger as the internet grows in popularity.

A quick look at the benefits of internet based TV programming points to a simple conclusion. The internet is the ideal medium to broadcast TV programming and the de facto will soon be to watch TV on PC networks. Certain types of IP based TV are becoming increasingly popular, offering internet transmission and programming viewed directly on our PCs. Offered as a paid service, there is an activation fee involved. The trend industry wide however, is for a small one-time fee. A number of package levels are available, with the top of the range services still coming in at less then $50 one-time fees. Compared to the monthly subscriptions for cable or satellite for example, its a huge saving in costs.

For too long the TV industry has been under the thumb of the big players and major networks. This is due to change as the emergence of internet TV as a viable option gives consumers a new alternative to turn to. Consumers dissatisfied with their existing TV service can now choose to watch Satellite TV On Computer systems. A side by side comparison of features, shows the new TV medium to be the outright winner, streets ahead of comparable cable or satellite systems.

A wide range of genres with thousands of programs, easy worldwide access and on demand download coupled with full refund guarantees are all standard in even the most basic packages. The sign-up process is simple and quick. Choose your package, make the required payment and download the software to access the service. Installing the access software is a matter of minutes and once thats done, its basically Free TV On Computer. No more payments ever.

TV viewers using these services swear by them. No more expensive equipment upgrades or hardware required. All thats needed is a PC and internet access, both of which are already present in most households. Households running networks of PCs can benefit from the TV programming being available to all the computers in the home. Even better, if access is over a wireless router, then that and a laptop brings the ultimate in portable, Free Computer TV. Offering so much for so little, its not surprising that more and more people are turning to internet TV systems.

How to Get Seasonal Music Downloads

February 19th, 2009
by Graham McKenzie

Every year when the holidays roll around, people start to search for the old, familiar music songs that bring back pleasant memories. Seasonal music is always incredibly popular, but it is only popular at certain times during the year. This makes it harder for you to find CDs in the stores. Fortunately, it is easy just to download the songs you want off the Internet. The thing is, finding a good place to get your seasonal music downloads can become a holiday chore if you don?t know where to begin your search.

Much like any other type of music download, you can obtain season music downloads in a number of different locations. The most obvious and easiest? Try the services like iTunes that allow you to purchase individual tracks or whole albums. Other services like Connect, Rhapsody, and Napster permit you to access any number of songs from a huge catalog for a flat monthly fee, but they do not allow the free distribution sharing of that music or burning music to CDs because of the integration of Digital Rights Management (DRM) into the files.

That is why many people seek out third options that allow them more direct access to seasonal music downloads. They may want to get a song that will allow them to make a nice ring tone for their phone. They may simply want to create an album for a party or for the personal, private seasonal enjoyment around the home. Whatever occasion you have in mind, you can find that seasonal music online.

An increasingly popular method of finding seasonal downloads is through services that provide you with direct access to huge libraries of music for a single onetime fee. At these sites, there is no need to log in and spend $0.99 for every track. You just pay for membership up front and then start downloading the music as you need it. Files are encrypted in MP3 format. This makes them small and easy to put on portable devices. You can burn your MP3s to CDs to mix your own albums, and the files are easy to move between machines without worrying about the draconian restrictions of DRM that so many other services force upon you.

Don’t fail to visit sites providing streaming audio of popular tracks of popular songs. Every year the websites for MTV, Last.fm, and your favorite radio station will start posting singles of holiday music, and all of them are free. Give the music videos in streaming catalogs of profiles on MySpace and similar social networking sites and on YouTube a go, too.

Seasonal music is enduring popular. Each and every year you will find more and more tracks from which to choose your downloads. No matter which songs mean the most to you, an easy search on the World Wide Web will bring you a plethora of favorites, old and new. Whether you download paid tracks or you use subscription services or you rely on free downloadable videos, ever year brings more seasonal music downloads than ever before.
